Judgment: S Taljaard & Another v Land Bank & Others

This judgment, handed down on 20 February 2026 by Sher J, arises from a long-standing court battle concerning whether the Land Bank had locus standi to bring sequestration applications against Mr C. van der Merwe and the entities in which he held an interest.

In this highly unusual ruling, the Court found that Adv. F. Jansen van Rensburg had made false and defamatory statements against the Land Bank and their attorney and accordingly, awarded a de bonis propriis costs order against Adv. Jansen van Rensburg.
